At the start of summer, HUNGERBALL™ reached a new milestone with the first HUNGERBALL™ Inter-School Tournament as part of the inaugural Counties Manukau Games hosted by Bruce Pulman Park. The games are an opportunity for 1500 young people from across Counties Manukau to compete in an Aims Games-like event over three days.
HUNGERBALL™ ran a multi-sport 3v3 round-robin format with 3 x 5-minute challenges: football, noodle hockey and endgame. Of the six teams, Mangere Central School came first, Rowandale School second and Jean Batten School third.
This was a great opportunity to showcase the fun and inclusive nature of HUNGERBALL™, even in a competitive context. The Counties Manukau Games focus on including cultural and in-demand activities and based on the feedback, we anticipate next year there will be even more schools playing HUNGERBALL™.
